Another sense in which improv resonates with what we are doing:
If we are going to build a scene, we need to listen (in the widest sense) to each other. And as facilitators and collaborators: we pay attention so we can meet each other exactly where we are.
For example, this could mean knowing who needs a bit more time to process what they’ve heard or to form their response – and gently holding room for that.
It could also mean that however fun the improv games we have planned, it will be no surprise if several of our number play as cats for the whole session instead!
We respect the process. Figuring out how to identify and meet all needs can sometimes stretch our capacities, but it is always worth it.
